Dark-Light Duality
Light as beacon.
I drew inspiration from the chemical properties of light. The tower beacon as the attraction to the rest stop is an abstraction of the wave-particle duality of light.
When designing the truck stop I asked what it would feel like to step out of your car after a long road trip to New Orleans - Hot, Humid, and Heavy. The atmosphere is pushing down on you and everything is simultaneously sinking into and emerging from the bayou.
How do dark and light interact with each other? The darkness longs more so for the light. it reaches out to it, wraps itself around the brightness and can feel its energy but cannot absorb it. it grasps for the light, but it is always out of reach.
The two different forms represent the light and the dark. the rest stop containing fueling stations, restaurants, a tattoo parlor and a boat gas dock is sunk into and emerging from the ground, surrounding the beacon of light that is elevated and out of reach.
